Episode 38 In the Dark Room
This episode comes from he Twitch stream on August 24th 2023. Things start off ambient for a change, with a nice oceanic soundscape, exploring different sonic colors. The next piece grows out of the ether as well, developing slowly but surely into a nice dark and brooding piece. The next piece is also sans percussion, and develops very slowly, and eventually evolves into a chord progression I’ve used before, filled out nicely with bowed layers. The fourth piece is created in an unusual way with a percussion loop using the bow to create a bounced tap. It takes a little while to find the chords, but this piece eventually develops into an interesting exploration of small driving rhythms and figures. I’d begun working on scoring a couple of short films when this stream happened, and I think I drew from some of the darker themes that I was having to write for the films as this piece developed. The fifth piece uses the same tapped bow percussion, and continues in the darker movie music vein of things.
